Painting? and Stillness

Stillness

The quiet was unsettling. That stillness. An utter sense of lifelessness, despite the life surrounding me.

The trees—each branch jutting out, stiff as stone, not swayed by nature's call.

The buildings stayed put—motionless, in awe. Not even a flickering light could be spotted.

The streets—deserted. Not a single person in sight. Not even a shadow.

The leaves—frozen on the ground. As if stuck by glue. A need rather to not move.

The sky—bare. Not a single cloud, speck or bird floating aimlessly.
I, myself, was forced to stop. Entranced by the stillness that surrounded me.
As if nature was holding her breath, waiting to be captured.

Amidst the solidity of the built environment, was a single breathing human.

Ines Le Cannellier is an interdisciplinary artist who explores the relationship between food, art, movement, emotions, and nature in both written and visual formats. Her process is idea based, always beginning with a thought. She fuels her work by absorbing her everyday surroundings. Reflection is her main tool, emotion is the thread that links all of her works together. She aims to make what is intangible—a concept, an idea, a feeling—tangible. Conversely, she uses the material world to create emotional atmospheric pieces, thus reversing the process. Her mind is sometimes in a struggle with itself, the fluid side being in constant ebb and flow, while the rational side attempts to grasp and control the thoughts. Her works are tied together by a sense of movement, which exists on a spiritual, emotional, and physical level.

She is a sophomore student at Parsons School of Design currently majoring in Interior Design. She is French but grew up in Chicago, IL where she attended a French School. She has been a dancer since she could walk and also enjoys baking, reading, and eating chocolate.
