Hymn to the Sinai Fathers and Mothers

Oh ancient sages of the desert
who fled violence-racked cities for
safe shelters in the wilderness—
oh holy abbas and ammas
who escaped cultures mad
with violence and oppression
reach back from the 6th century
and share a word of wisdom
                 to save us all.
